Texas 4th of July Recipe!

TEXAS CAVIAR

Mrs. Top Gun loves this recipe, and it is a staple across tables at any 4th of July celebration in Texas. It DOES not include any fish eggs, so rest assured! The 'Caviar' part is actually the Black eyed peas in the dish, and they are delicious.

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

3 cans drained black eye peas with chopped jalapeno peppers *if you can't find these, just chop up your own peppers and add them to taste.*
1 purple onion, chopped
3 tomatoes, chopped
3 cloves garlic, chopped
2 avocados, diced
2 jalapeno peppers, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
1/2 bunch of cilantro, chopped *Don't like Cilantro? Don't add it*
Zesty Italian Salad Dressing *Add your favorite brand. I like to use WishBone*

Prep Time:

After you chop all this up, add enough Zesty Italian dressing to get the consistency that you want for a dip. Add salt and pepper and refrigerate overnight. Serve with tortilla chips, or with your favorite chip. I like to take fresh corn tortillas, cut them into triangles and then fry them up! Making your own tortilla chips just tastes better! Serve in your favorite bowl, and top the dip with a few slices of fresh avocado. ENJOY!

Thirsty Thursday!

THIRSTY THURSDAY'S DRINK OF THE WEEK:
Texas Tea
I've decided to start a new weekly tradition. In honor of it merely being Thursday, Mrs. Top Gun introduces a new drink recipe every Thursday! This weeks drink is a fave of mine, and why not start off with a TEXAS drink? I feel it is very much called for! Hope ya'll enjoy it, and feel free to mix it up- let me know if you come up with a new version, or perhaps you have a fun drink you'd like to share? Send it my way!
Here in Texas, we don't do anything 'little,' and this drink packs a potent punch. Please don't plan on drinking one or two of these and then driving home- just have someone else drive you! So, grab your fancy drinking glass, add lots of ice and pour it!

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz tequila
  • 2 oz rum
  • 2 oz vodka
  • 2 oz gin
  • 2 oz bourbon
  • 2 oz triple sec
  • 2 oz sweet and sour mix
  • cola

Preparation:

  1. Fill a 1 gallon pitcher with ice.
  2. Pour all the ingredients, except the cola, into the pitcher.
  3. Stir well.
  4. Add the cola to taste. *Use Coca-Cola, not generic*
  5. Stir again.
  6. Pour into a glass over ice and serve.
